Back in 1972 these two high-school friends created what became a multi-million-dollar enterprise one which inspired countless musicians and offered genuinely new ways to create sound. Dave Rossum designs soundcard chips for Creative in the building next door, and Scott Wedge flies his plane over Monterey Bay whilst dreaming up new patents. Whilst the founders have long since left the company, and moved on from the company's original modular synths and (later) samplers, they have remained close by. In the first of several articles on these companies, we look at the milestone products made by Emu, who drove the sampling revolution in the '80s.Įmu Systems will be celebrating their 30th anniversary in November this year with a small party at their head office in California.
